The Baipenzhu Reservoir Loop is one of the more popular road cycling routes in Huizhou, combining quiet reservoir roads, rolling terrain, a sustained mountain climb and a long technical descent.
At just under 95 kilometers, the route is relatively compact, but more than 1,500 meters of climbing gives it plenty of substance.
Much of the first half follows the edge of Baipenzhu Reservoir, where the road rolls continuously through the hills with frequent views across the water. Traffic is generally light, and the reservoir often makes this section feel noticeably cooler and more relaxed than riding closer to the city.
The character of the route changes completely around the halfway point.
After the main resupply stop, the road turns into the mountains and begins the longest climb of the day. From there, the loop becomes more remote before eventually returning to flatter, faster roads for the final part of the ride.
It is not an especially long ride, but it packs a lot into less than 100 kilometers.
